Last Dollar Ranch supports a diversity of wildlife, such as coyotes, foxes, elk, deer, multiple species of small mammals, native fish, and birds. The high elevation creeks and pond provide habitat for several species of fish, waterfowl, and river mammals and supply a water source for resident and migratory animals. The open meadows offer habitat and forage. The thick timber provides respite from the heat and shelter from the wind.

For decades, the open meadows, grassy slopes, and the oak brush and timber of Last Dollar Ranch have been the annual calving grounds of a large elk herd. The elk arrive from their winter grounds in June to calve in the alpine meadows amidst a profusion of wildflowers. They remain in the area until after the rut in the fall.
